.Eagle Rock 42 - Finlander 0
Game 1
.The match was a very closely thought, even
though the score sounds very one sided.
The first ten minutes of the game either
side could have scored a try, but with excellent defense neither
could prevail
Then in the 15th minute Eagle Rock went
over for the first score, the pack kept the ball moving well in hand
and at the last maul the number 8 went crashing over.
Eagle Rock added a penalty after excellent
defense by Finlanders kept them from crossing their line.
Finlanders launch numerous attacks inside
the Eagle Rock 22, but could not capitalize on their pressure
through either good defense or silly penalties.
Then on the stroke of half time Eagle Rock
while soaking up a lot of pressure scored a break away try, even
though Kane (chasing down a cheetah almost caught the wing and
stopped him).
Second half was a very even affair until
the last 5 minutes when Eagle Rock Scored 2 well worked tries,
mainly because Finlanders were a man short due to a sin binning.
Special Mention
Vico " The Terminator"
The hardest hitting tackle of the game (Munched ,Crunched and buried
the Eagle Rock Flanker).
Hero Of The Game.
The whole team, first game for many players
and were not out played.
Villian
Mike, For staying on the field when he
should have gone off injured after 5 minutes, also bad handling
error caused break out try before half time.
Finlander 15 - Camp Pendleton 15
Game 2
After a very competitive hard fought game with questionable
refereeing decisions Finlander finally snatch a tie out of the jaws
of a victory.
Camp Pendleton came out all guns blazing in the first twenty mins,
but with excellent defense Finlander easily kept their visitors
scoreless.
After 30 mins after one of the many iffy ref decisions, the
visitors scored a try just left of the posts. Somehow the
conversion was missed. The resulting kick off was Caught by the
impressive No 8 Charles ( who had a magnificent game ) who romped up
the field, at the persuing break down the visitors were caught
offside, Finlander Fly half Rob kicked the penalty. The rest of the
half was spent in the visitors half with Finlander going close to
scoring on numerous occasions.
Half Time Finlander 3- Camp Pendleton 5
The second half started with a few errors
on both sides,( both teams struggling with the windy conditions )
after 15mins the game started to get ugly, and after 20 the visitors
scored their 2nd try, even though good defense the visitors had the
overlap and scored unopposed. Finlander threw everything into attack
and started to get on top. On 20 mins quick thinking Mark "the
Beast" took a quick lineout to Rob who strolled under the posts to
Score only for the ref (who was having a off day ) decided to
disallow it for not being straight. On 22 mins Finlander tied
the game with a try from Kane ( first ever one ) and converted by
Rob. With 5 mins left the visitors scored their 3rd try after
Finlander Inside Center "Vico" went off injured, the visitors missed
the conversion. With the game looking over and 5 points down
Finlander launched attack after attack, finally resulting in a try
under the posts by Sean after a quick penalty by "The Beast". With
only 1 min remaining and victory in Finlanders grasp the conversion
was missed. Finlander attacked for the last minute and 2 minutes
injury time to pull off a victory only for the ref to blow full time
when 10 yards from the line.
Special Mention
After Match Zulu by Kane
Hero Of The Game
The Finlander pack led by Charles
Villian
Hate to say it, the Referee.
Back Bay 29 - Finlander 26
A quickly arranged fixture during what was
supposed to be a bye week, showed the committed of every player who
turned out. Although weakened by a few absences Finlander showed how
well they have advanced this season, narrowly losing to a Back Bay
club 2 divisions higher than them.
In the first 10 minutes their was a lot of
very enterprising play from both teams, and excellent defense kept
the game scoreless. Then on 15 minutes Back Bay scored their first
try, a quick penalty was taken and they scored on the third phase,
try was converted. On 22 minutes Finlander struck back, great play
by the forwards sent them up the field only for Back Bay to be
caught offside, a quick penalty was taken by "The Beast" and in turn
passed to the Mike "Imron" who broke a tackle a dived over, the
conversion was narrowly missed by Rob. Finlander took heart from
this and attacked fearsomely, and nearly scored another try only for
the ball to carry a little to far from "The Beast" box kick. The
just before half time Back bay scored a try, good work from the
Finlander pack was some how turned over and with the Finlander Backs
committed to attack, the Back Bay Flanker strolled over, conversion
missed.
Half Time Back Bay 12 - Finlander 5
As soon as the half started Finlander with
extra spring in their step ( after a half time roasting from the
coach ) set out to put their authority on the game, and after 15
scoreless minutes finally broke through. Nath ( having a great match
after he moved to Hooker because of the first half injury to Rudy
)spoiled the Back Bay attack and hacked the ball downfield, the
ensuing chase saw "New Boy" JJ sprint through and collect a tricky
boucing ball to score his debut Try, Rob converted. This shocked
Back Bay into 15 minutes of very aggressive attacking, and saw them
scored 3 tries ( could have been more but for defiant defense ) one
try was converted. Finlander with their pride dented and the heart
of a lion roared back, Great work from the backs and support by the
pack caused Back Bay to infringe, a quick penalty and Sean crashed
over, Rob converted. With 2 minutes remaining Sean scored his 2nd
try after a quick line out, Rob converted again ( having a excellent
all round game ). Finlander sensing a shock victory was now evident
were only stopped because the referee blew for full time.
Special Mention
"Silent Bob" playing the best match of the
season, even though he had a broken hand ( massive commitment )
Hero Of The Game
To many to mention but Rob for his defense,
offense and kicking.
Villian
None.
Pasadena 55 Finlander 10
This game will be better remembered for the injury to key player
Sean, who after only 10 minutes of playing cut his lip in a
collision with an opposing player (Later had 50 stitches by a
plastic surgeon, no improvements in his looks but at least the lip
was mended) with the score at 5:5.
The forwards found it hard to respond to the pressure from the
opposition without their leader. A lot of missed tackles and lack of
enthusiasm lead to a long afternoon for Finlander.
Two things to highlight 1.
Marks ability to shout at a player in his way and still make a
miraculous try scoring pass to Charles.
2. Nathans excellent impression of
Cartman
Special Mention
Sean who by his absence proved what a
leader he is.
Hero Of Game
Charles ........ 2 tries and stayed on
field even with a hamy
Villian
Second time this year, Mike....... For
being a sulky ass and not playing to even 75% effort.
